Battery Records of the Royal Artillery 1716-1859 by MES Laws.
« on: Thursday 26 August 10 13:29 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Can anyone advise me as to where I might get hold of a copy of this book. I have an ancestor who was a gunner in  RJJ Lacey's Company, 5th Battalion Royal Artillery(1808-1832) and would like to follow the history of this regiment....any guidance would be gratefully received.

Thank you
Rosie

I know they have the book at the National Archives, if you can get there!

Rosie, did you ever obtain this book?  My ancestor was also in 5th Battalion between 1805 and 1818.  I would be interested to know if you discovered anything about the battalion's history.

I have a copy of the book but do not tend to do 'look ups' as I am such an infrequent visitor to Roots Chat these days.  However, I have sent you a PM. (Also to the other person asking).

I got my copy of the book from Abe books about four years ago (and it was not cheap then!)

All the best

Just found this thread on a search. I found out today that I have an ancestor (Kenneth Fowler) who served in 5th Battalion Royal Artillery, at least from 1796 up till 1814. He was a corporal in 1796 and a sergeant by 1800. He might have known both your ancestors!
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott
