Williams Family Bible, Bridgend
« on: Wednesday 25 August 10 09:18 BST (UK) »
There's an old family bible currently listed on ebay, Item no 140443947838.

The seller has given me the following info when I emailed.

"I don't speak Welsh but the first page "Rhestr Deuluaidd" - "Enwau Y Rhieni"

Y Gwr: William Williams
Ganwyd: Yachnuedd 2nd 1864
Y Wraig: Hannah Jones
Ganwyd: Awst 26 1865
Priodwyd: (Cant really read the joined up writing too well but looks to me as though it says...)Yn Penybont ar Ogwr, Sir Forgannwg Yru, Mehefryn 27 1889

There are other pages, I'm guessing the next is either Family-Tree or Children?

"Enwau Y Plant"
Edward Williams - 1891
Elizabeth Williams - 1892
Sarah Blodwyn - 1894
Ivy May L Williams - 1896
William Ezekiel Williams - 1899
Daniel David Williams - 1901
Ivy Mary Williams - 1905
Cecil ????? - 1906

There are some other pages but obviously generally Williams'

FYI, I had found this Bible in the attic of an old pub which used to be The Old Kings Head in Ogmore Vale, Bridgend, South Wales."

A quick look through the census for this family shows they are from the Llandyfodwg area.  It would be nice to think that the bible could be returned to a family member.  Maybe they belong to a Rootschatter out there somewhere?

Best wishes

Hi Ruth,
The Bible has now been purchased by the ogmopre Valley local History & Heritage Society and will eventually reside in our Archive in Ogmore Vale Primary School...

Hi Huw

I'm really pleased that the Bible will be staying in the area.  Do you know if there are any descendants of this family still living locally?

Regards

Ruth

PS Is there any news on getting the Llandyfodwg parish registers copied onto DVD? I think I've almost found every ancestor recorded in the Llangeinor parish registers - though it has kept me entertained for days!

Don`t know as yet as we haven`t yet got the Bible so don`t know what names are in it, though it`s unlikely they will still be in the area, we will check.....

The Llandyfodwg PRs are still on the radar but we need to complete a project for the necessary equipment first :)
