James Anderson Comrie
« on: Tuesday 24 August 10 14:02 BST (UK) »
Hi all. I am researching into my fathers service in WW2.  He was in the Royal Medical Corp and I do know that he was posted to India and served some time at Pune and Kohima . He rose to staff sergeant in the medical corp and served most of his time in Burma. His name was James Anderson Comrie (ka Jimmy) and he would have been 22 at the start of the war.  During his posting overseas, he received the oak leaf ,along with the Burma Star and was mentioned in dispatches. Any details, photos, documents, of his life in India and Burma during this period  would be deeply appreciated.    Best wishes.  picamarra.

Hi Picamara
Apparently the Oak Leaf and the MID are one and the same.  If you go to the London Gazette online you should be able to find him being mentioned in there for it.  It might only be a line with his name in it unless it was fairly early on in the war when they got more of a mention.  The London Gazette is a bit tortuous so if you have his service number that would help you pinpoint him better.  However Comrie is not as common a name as some!  Might also be worth you going to the RAMC website and having a look at that.  If they have an enquiry section put in a request and see what you can find.  The IWM would also be worth a visit!
