 Thanks again Sandy.

The two Daniels dying  in Ipswich, Queensland on the same day of consecutive months seems improbable. I wonder what is going on?

I have found the Daniel - Martha Brown connection on another site; That Daniel, father of ours, appears to have been born in Thatcham in 1772, died 1812, son of Richard Wheeler and Elizabeth Smallbone.

I don't know how to check this!

And my descent is from Shadrack d 1880- William d 1922- George William d 1966- Stanley John d 1994- Richard William (- and my son William...)

Alan - I wondered if you had a place of birth for Daniel wheeler father of Shadrach?  We seem to have found two or three candidates to be his father...

Many thanks

Hi Richd,

No I haven't found a baptism for Daniel Wheeler.

I've looked in these transcripts (all ex OFHS);
E.Hagbourne, North & South Moreton, Blewbury,, Upton, Didcot,  Aston Tirrold (Daniel Henry Wheeler - bapt. & Bur. 1862 & Shadrack Bur 1881),  Long Wittenham, Sutton Courtenay, Appleford & Wantage - because  West Hagnourne was part of that parish until it had its own church.

All these are either neighbouring or parishes close by Hagbourne

The IGI (FamilySearch) has several Daniel Wheeler baptisms in Berks - Reading 1793, Pangbourne 1797, Thatcham 1800 and Wokingham 1803 all are possibles, although I think Pangbourne is the most likely but still a few parishes away from Hagbourne. There are also two in Buckingham which are "submitted entries"

Not very helpful I'm sorry to say.

 Dear Sandy and Alan
Well I hope that our Daniel was not consigned to the lions' den nor  his Shadrach, mishach and Abednigo to the fiery furnace !

I am rather thinking that our line is going back to Daniel and Martha Wheeler in Thatcham rather than the Pangbourne trail... But i cannot yet tie in our Daniel married in East Hagbourne to the Daniel born in Thatcham  1800 (bpt 22 Feb 1800).

Many thanks for all your help

Richd

Hi

i don't know if you have seen this
In 1861 the Daniel Wheeler in Hagbourne married to Eliza gives his birthplace as Aston Buckinghamshire

Perhaps the emumerator made an error in 1851

Thank you Sandy and Debbie... It looks as if Pangbourne Dan is not the one... and we have been on a wild goosechase - if Dan was born is Aston then it does actually seem that he was Aston Tirrold in Berks not Bucks. (My grandpapa had a broad Berkshire accent and I know it was easy to mishear what he said)

Back to the drawing board...

Huge thanks to both of you (I am supposed to be writing a book at the moment but this is far more compelling)

Richard
