Pateley Bridge Burials - Sarah A Keegan
« on: Monday 23 August 10 19:53 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am not so sure if Sarah A Keegan died in Pateley Bridge in 1933 - that if she never married - as found it on Ancestry age 53 died Pateley Bridge - also is there a headstone and how many burials site are they in pateley bridge and how can i find the newspaper obituary?

Any information is most grateful.

Hi,

The registration shows that Sarah Keegan died in the Pateley Bridge registration district (which covers 14 towns/villages) but she might have been buried elsewhere.

You might get clues from a copy of her death certificate, which will show where she died and her home  address;  it will also give the name and address of the informant who might be a member of her family.

I have emailed the Death registration for more information on Sarah A Keegan - she was spinster so I have now ordered the death certificate, but where do i go from here as she died in Dacre area. Do I need to go to Harrogate Library to find out which burial or obiturary (newspaper).

Hi,

Once you have her death certificate, which will show where she died and her usual address,  you should then have an idea as to where she might be buried and to start your search in that area.

The death certificate will also give the date she died, which will make it easier to search local newspapers.  The library might be able to tell you which newspapers were in the area in 1933.  Not all deaths featured in the "announcements";  if she was well-known in the area there might be an obituary.

Got the Death Certificate today  :)

She died 20Th Jan 1933 in summer bridge, harrogate but registered in pateley bridge sub district darley in the county of York.

She died in the house at the area of hartwith / summerbridge.

Any ideas where can go from here to find out if she was buried or cremated?

Any advice or information is most grateful.

Hi,

You could search local newspapers to see if there was a death announcement or notice of funeral arrangements.

If no luck with the newspapers it means searching burial registers of local churchyards or cemeteries;  I'm not familiar with the area so not able to advise but the local library might be able to help.

Sam,

Holy Trinity Parish Church, Dacre Banks appears on the website www.gravestonephotos.com  If you are not familiar with this web site it is a gravestone photographic project and for those churchyards or cemeteries which appear on the web site you can search the relevant one by surname for details of burials.  If you find one which is relevant to your research you can then request a copy of a photo of the head stone free of charge.

According to the website the database holds 296 graves and records 712 persons at Holy Trinity Parish Church, Dacre Banks unfortunately Sarah A Keegan does not appear to be amongst them.  I do not know whether the project has fully or only partially recorded the graveyard of Holy Trinity Parish Church.

Not being familiar with the area (although my great grandfather was born there)  I do not know whether this is the graveyard which Philip refers to in his post or whether there are other Dacre Churches.
