1891 Census Islington Area Joseph North
« on: Monday 04 April 05 13:12 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Can anybody help me trace Joseph North or Augusta North on 1891 Census.

What I have is 1891 Census
Augusta Pierce age 42 b Islington.
Stella Pierce age 1 b Enfield
Living at 40 Grafton Road

In 1901 Stella had become Stella North living at 2 Baronsmere Rd, Finchley. RG13/1234
No record of Augusta North or Peirce on 1901 Census.

I have marriage cert. of Stella North still living at 2 Baronsmere Rd, father Joseph North(deceased) and witness Augusta North.
This was in 1914.

I have traced a death of Joseph North in Islington Sept Q 1898 age 48. This is likely to be father of Stella.

WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR IS SOME RECORD OF JOSEPH NORTH IN 1891.

This would greatly help my research. Thank you
                                                         Regards
                                                                      Geoff

Hi Geoff

I've had a look and there were quite a few Joseph NORTHs of about the right age to be Augusta's father in London and Middlesex .............. the ones that I did pick out were accounted for so I can't, at this stage, see any way of telling just which one, if any, could be Stella's father.

Sorry  :(

Hi Casalguidi,
Thanks for your message. It seems that Augusta had Stella out of wedlock. and changed her name later to North. It could well be that Joseph North was already married. I have never traced a marriage of Augusta Peirce with Joseph North. Are there any in your findings who would be born about 1950 (Augusta was born 7/4/1849) probably in Islington or certainly the London area. Stella was born in Enfield but lived with a sister of Augusta who also changed names. It is a complicated and confusing situation.
Any ideas or help. Many thanks
                                                     Geoff

Hi Casalguidi,

That is most interesting as Stella was born in Enfield. Problem is how to sort out the facts from possibilities of illicit relationships.  Thanks

Yes.  I assume that you have Stella's birth and/or baptism and that there are no clues there?

I couldn't identify Augusta NORTH (or whatever her name was) in 1901 either  ???  Perhaps she is living under yet another name or badly mistranscribed somewhere  ???

Good luck .................. I think you'll gonna need it!
