Can this marriage be found?!
« on: Monday 23 August 10 00:29 BST (UK) »
Hello there,

This is a very unusal request!  This photograph was found when a relation died in the 1980s; it seems to have been sent to my great grandmother (judging by the written message, as her name was Florence).  She lived in North East of England.

From the message, and if someone is able to date the photograph, could we able to find the marriage record of this couple?!  I have no idea whether the bride and groom are related to me, or just friends of my great grandmother, but either way, I would love to see the marriage record to go with the picture!

Can this be done, or is there just too little information to go on?!

Thank you

Hi there,
At a guess this is around the mid 1920's. Any earlier and the hemline would be lower and later towards the 1930's the silhoutte became more fluid and softer looking. Not a particular flattering look for the bride? Husband is very handsome with his 3 piece suit, watch chain and bowler hat. His wing collar is quite formal. There is almost a European feel to this couple but it may just be the flowers that the bride seems to have all over her! GBP

Hi

I put in 1918 -1930, Durham, Northumberland and North Yorks with Waights

Two marriages with males of that surname came up:

George P Waights to Catherine A B Robertson, June q, 1925,  Newcastle upon Tyne 10b 358

and

Bertram B Waights  to Vera W Armstrong, June q, 1922,  Newcastle upon Tyne  10b 363

I then did the same with All counties and only these came up!

One of them could be the couple.

Wouldn't one have to consider the marriages of female Waights also?  The photos could conceivably have been sent out by the bride's parents.  Granted, this is less likely, but is a possibility.

Well, I would read it as it is the new Mr and Mrs Waights otherwise they might well have put up the names of the B & G but,  if it was a daughter, there are just two others - Lilian and Doris

Lilian married a William Miller Sept q, 1918, N/c
Doris married a James Carroll Sep q 1923 N/c

A few others are coming up on another site - but not in NE

What was Flossie's DoB/residence?

Looking at the styles I would say early 20's,a bit old fashioned for any later.
If the postcard is 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" before 1926.

So it looks as if it might be Bertram and Vera or Doris and James then, Jim  :)

Wow, I think I need to order a certficate.  GBP Gadget, Nick and Jim ... thank you  :)

My gran, Florence May, was born in 1889 and lived in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire in the 1920s ... a little way from Newcastle, but people do move away from home!  Florence had a daughter, born just before c. 1920, and she was named Florence May, but known as Flossie.  Anyone alive now does not know if Flossie was a 'nickname' for Florence May senior but by the date of the image it must be!

It would also seem that my great gran who recieved this card was a little older than the couple shown!
