Trimdon Street, Hartlepool ?
« on: Friday 20 August 10 22:25 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have photographs of Trimdon Street in West Hartlepool.

The street was demolished in the 1970s, and i have searched web site and local museum's for any images.

Any suggestions!

Regards
CB

have just come across your post, trimdon street was a very small st on the corner of a busy junction on middleton road , which led to the docks and the swing bridge, it was there on the 1896 ordnance survey map, when the houses were demolished as you said it was in the early 1970s, and my family moved into the new houses they built on the site in 1974, there was at that time a laundry on the corner, which my mother used for years before we moved in to the area, they collected your washing and then delivered it back all done. If you go onto amazon or play.com they may have some books by a guy called george colley he wrote lots of books about hartlepools past all in photos, they are a marvelous insight in hartlepools history, i was looking at one yesterday in the library, i found photo of a street i was looking for in one of them , so well worth a look. sue

Thank for the reply Sue, it is a welcome surprise.
I was born on Trimdon St but we left Hartlepool about 1968/9. My Grand parents lived on Raby Road.
I remember the Laundry and knew one of the ladies who worked there. She used to let me and my friends sit in there. I also remember seeing one of my friends run over right out side the door. I was about 5 at the time, and everytime i visit the area and drive past the spot i think about it. He did survive but it obviously left its mark on me!

Anyway, i have a few of Georges books but so far have not been able to find Trimdon St or any of the others, i.e Water/Gas St or Darlington Terrace.
Until they were built, my family were all from Princes St and Slake Terrace in Middleton.

Apart from the story above, i have many happy memories of Trimdon St and "The Banks". Good times.

I will keep looking for that picture, thanks again Sue.
Regards
Chris

Hello Chris! I was born on Trimdon Street in 1955 and remember it well. Did you know my parents Mr and Mrs Hoggart, and Bill and Betty Richardson who lived next to the laundrette on the junction of Middleton and Raby Road?
Regards,
Laurence

Hello, thanks for the heads up re the Facebook site. I don’t use Facebook but know a couple who do so I will make enquiries. Thank you.
I did manage to find an old image of Gas St taken c1920-30. My grandparents married in the early thirties and Gas St was their first home, later moving to Collingwood Rd the back to Ruby Rd for the remainder of their lives.
Regards Chris

Laurence, I have just seen your post.
Was your mothers name Hilda. I don’t remember the Richardsons. We live between Mrs Horn and the Scotts. The Slimmings family lived a few doors away, Stephen was about my age.
As you can see from my post I have been trying to find a photo of the street.
Regards Chris.

I vociferously despised it for a decade or more, and never had an account until I found out about Groups. Joined up using an obvious pseudonym for privacy reasons and I've found quite a few pics of ancestors and where they lived by joining the various local history groups. Also handy for things like classic car restoration etc, you get all your questions answered. Well worth biting the bullet and joining up, I've never regretted it... I still hate the company though, obv.
