Hay & Hutton-in-the Hay

Does anyone know where Hay & Hutton-in-the Hay is located?  I can't find it on a current google map.

Hi Linda,
The bondsman on my 5x great grandfather's marriage bond (1739) was from Hutton in the Hay.  I think it's somewhere near Scalthwaiterigg, but I can't find it on Google maps.  I found Old Hutton and New Hutton, but not Hay and Hutton in the Hay.

Thanks, Linda, but I've looked at all those sites, and still don't know where Hay, and Hutton in the Hay were!

At one time there appeared to be 5 distinct places: Scalthwaiterigg, Hay, and Hutton in the Hay--all in the Marquis Fee--and New Hutton and Old Hutton in the Richmond Fee.

What happened to Hay, and Hutton in the Hay?  How close were they to Scalthwaiterigg?  Are they now part of Scalthwaiterigg?

I think Hay was the area roughly where Oxenholme railway station is today, between Oxenholme Road and Sedbergh Road. Some houses were built a few years ago on Kendal Parks, and Hayclose Road adjoins Oxenholme Road.

Wow, ChrisWest, when I visit Kendal I always take the train from Manchester airport to Oxenholme.  It's amazing to think that I might have been standing in the place where my 6x great grandfather was farming in the early 1700s!  I'll be back in Oxenholme in September, and I'll be looking at it from quite a different perspective!
