Richard Lewis.Maengwynedd 1801 look up please.
« on: Friday 20 August 10 13:00 BST (UK) »
Hello.I am wondering if anyone out there can help in breaking down my huge brick wall.Im looking for birth details of Richard Lewis 1801.Censuses indicate he was born in Maengwynedd,Denbighshire. He was married to a Cathrine(Hughes)of Glyn which im presuming is Glyn Ceiriog. She died between the censuses of 1851 and 1861.They spent their married life at Tyddyn Bychan(Bachan)farm in the parish of Llangadwaladr.Richard was a farmer. When searching for Cathrine's death certificate on Ancestry.com i got the details that she died in 1858 in the first quarter,in the district of Llanfyllin.Unfortunately it was the wrong one.Help.

Hi Diepowell. Thanks for your reply.Sorry i havnt replied earlier. My pc died on me a good while ago now and i use the local library when i can.I do believe we have been in contact before,It is a couple of years ago now.Richard is also my husbands gt,gt,gt,grandfather. His son John is my husbands gt,gt,grandfather.Johns son Thomas is his gt,grandfather and Thomas's daughter Daisy is my husbands Grandmother.I do have all the details you mentioned. The marriage details i presume are the ones in Sellatyn which i also have although im a bit doubtful about it being our Richard and Cathrine as she is supposed to originate from Glyn Ceiriog.I also purchased a death certificate for Catherine Lewis for the first quarter of 1858 and it wasnt our Catherine. The one i recieved was married to a Humphrey Lewis. So im searching again.Ours is supposed to have died May 26th which is the 2nd quarter and yet the volume and page number is for the first quarter. So something is recorded wrong there.I was in Wales a few weeks ago and we found the old farm house.I too have a photo of the house but its aged again since then.Part of the roof has collapsed in now.The house is situated in a beautiful area.High up on a hill.Quite a treck to it but well worth seeing.Cashmere.(Scotland)

Hi Diane. Many thanks for your reply.Unfortunately it didnt print your email address. There was a message from Rootschat saying their policy doesnt allow it.Iwill ask Joy for it.Thats wonderful news about Richards,John and Marys wills.I will send Joy the photo of the house as it is now but it will take a while as it has to be done by post.I cant send through the computer as i am at the library.I dont know who owns the house now.I t may still come under Plas Nantyr Estate.I know the other farm houses around that area were sold off privately.I will look on ancestry for the will.Havnt much time now so it will be next week. Thanks again.Regards.Cashmere.
