Thompson Family Widnes

Hi,

Looking for some information on my great grandfather James Thompson.

The information I have on him is that he was born in 1869 in Widnes (not sure when he died).  Son of Samual and Jane and husband to Elizabeth.

He was a freemason and have been told he could have owned the George Hotel (pub) in the West Bank (I think Waterloo rd) which has been demolished.

Would anyone have any information on him or him owning the George Hotel (pub)?

James Thompson in 1901 lived at 64 Waterloo Road Widnes, occupation Licensed Victualler.
Check out.. All about Widnes..website, it has a virtual tour of the West Bank area in 1891, the landlord of the George Hotel, John Andrews is mentioned. Checked on ancestry 1891 John Andrews and sure enough the address was George Hotel 64 Waterloo Road!

there are 2 James Thompson born within the census returns date ..ie  1868/1869 reg Prescott

the 1868 James Thompson registered Prescott(this covers Widnes) was actually born in St Helens..this can be checked out on lancsbmd

the June qtr 1869 birth is your James
june qtr 1869 James Thompson    Prescott  ..when you check it out on lancsbmd it states

 1869  THOMPSON James   Widnes   Halton  WID/17/16

NOTES...bride signed as Jane which is crossed out and altered with Ann and Jane written above.
Penketh is just outside Widnes and I presume came under Widnes in 1867...BUT...Samuel Thompson is stated born Widnes - not Winsford ..possible mistranscription ?...what do you think
allan...(can`t find any other Samuel Thompson to a Jane marriage in the Widnes area that fits the date of James Thompson birth 1869....)

found it thankyou allan i agree place of abode is widnes.and this is def the couple as she liked to be know by the name jane but her name was ann jane so hence the mistake on marriage.force of habit i suppose
