Cromwellian land grants
« on: Friday 20 August 10 07:35 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to track down evidence of a grant of "substantial tracts of land in and around Rosenallis" to one of my ancestors in the mid-1600s. - not to claim the land  :D, but to trace family members from that point on.

Where would I look? I can't figure out whether this is the National Archives, Land Registry or National Library domain.

Hi.I too would be interested in finding documentation concerning Cromwellian land grants.I realise that this topic will, for many,be like treading on broken glass. In Prendergasts "The Cromwellian Settlement of Ireland" early editions, are the names, of the so called "Adventurers",people and organisations who bankrolled Cromwells army in their Irish subjugation in return for large parcels of land in Laois and elsewhere. These can be seen on line under Cromwellian Adventurers. They were gleaned by Prendergast in the mid 1800s ,from records held in Dublin Castle.
Among those named is a business man from London, who bears my own surname.I have done some research on him and found that Cromwell had appointed him as a member of the "Barebones Parliament" which lasted for only six months, before disbanding itself,to make him Lord Protector.Only recently, have I found on line, reference to possible ancestors in Dublin from 1650 onwards,Curiously these were C of I and were most likely to have come from England.I have a copy of the will, of the widow of the Londoner, dated 1692,written in a legal form of Latin (Lingua Franca) which I have been unable to have translated.Dublin is however mentioned in it. I feel sure that somewhere in Dublin there are copies of land grants.Does anyone Know?
