Alice Jeanette Sophia Fisher- Please help me find her marriage!
« on: Friday 20 August 10 05:01 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I hope you can help!

I am trying to find the marriage of Alice Jeanette Sophia Fisher (born 1859 Newark, Lincolnshire) to a George Taylor and the birth of their son Joseph Taylor (abt 1893ish?)

I have located Alice on the census up to 1881 but then the trail goes cold. Her parents were Gonville John Fisher and Harriet Whyers so I found them relatively easily. However, I can find nothing else on Alice and her family until her son Joseph marries his first wife Ethel Mary Tindall in 1912 in Lincoln. Apparently Joseph was one of many children according to his son, Albert.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks in advance!

Cari  :)

wow, this is a challange.  apart from her birth in sept qtr 1859 7b 283, I have found nothing.

Now searching possible mis-spellings of surname.  already tried dropping each middle name in turn.

Good luck, hope someone does better soon, but I'll be back if I find ANYTHING!

How do you know this lady was the mother of Joseph?

Looking at the 1901 census, for Joseph Taylors born around 1893 in Lincolnshire with father George ....
I see one with lots of children in the family at Rg13 3073 8 8 at East Kirby
but Mum is Annie

If this is the right family in 1891 they are at Rg12 2603 69 8 in Bolingbrooke with eldest 2 children William and Emma (Emily in 1901) who were both bn Bolingbroke. Mum Ann

And marriage 1887 SPlisby reg district

I see from the IGI that she was bap Thurlby, Lincs ... http://tinyurl.com/36cjzcw

also there was-
Marriages Sep 1882
FISHER    Alice        Newark    7b   626
MARTIN    George         Newark    7b   626

1901
Norton Disney
George MARTIN 41 Bricklayer, Bassingham
Alice 41 Thurlby
Kate 13 Norton Disney

Were there two Alice FISHERs from Thurlby 1859?

Incidentally .... Kate MARTIN (dau of George) married Joseph TAYLOR (son of Charles) 1917 at Aubourn ... I wonder if some wires have become crossed in the telling of the story ???

Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

My information comes from Albert, Joseph's son who is still alive. Albert is the son of Joseph and his second wife Kate Martin.

Albert gave Alice Jeanette Sophia Fisher as the name of his grandmother and I thought since it was quite a distinctive name that he wouldn't have got it wrong.

I, too have found the same families in the censuses and wondered if that actually is them, and Albert has somehow got mixed up with his ancestors names?!

Just read over what you have written Geoff, so it looks like Alice must have been Kate's mother and not Joseph's?!

I think you are definitely right, it just all seems to fit together now! Thank you so much! Am just trying to find them now on the 1891 census to see if Kate had any siblings, she is the only child in 1901!

I now also need to try and find Joseph's family! There only seems to be one Joseph, son of Charles in 1901 in Lincolnshire so am thinking that must be him!

I have that death for Ethel. She was Joseph Taylor's first wife and died the year before he married Kate.
