Found the family in 1911 in Hulme. PM sent with details.

I've been looking in 1901 for James born c1877 and Mary J born c1879 but no luck yet.

There's a marriage in 1895 of James Hamer & Mary Jane Vernon which lines up with the 1911 details. Chorlton-on-Medlock Register Office or Registar Attended, so no easy lookups.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.

I think I've found James and Mary Jane in 1901. I believe it's the enumberator's error, and they are down as FLETCHER at 4 Overton St, Hulme (RG13/3705 ED37 FOL40 PG33).

James is a Furniture Remover's Clerk - ten years later he was a manager in the same trade.

James do, Head, M, 25, Funiture Remover's Clerk, Lancashire Manchester
Mary J do, Wife, M, 22, , do do
Florrie do, Daug,, 5, , do do
James do, Son, , 3, , do do
Annie E do, Daug, , 1, , do do

Next door but one is a family of VERNONs.

8 Overton St
George Vernon, Head, M, 43, Brick Setter
Eleanor do, Wife, M, 42
Emily do, Daug, S, 16, Cotton Winder (Cotton Mill)
George do, Son, 13, Distibuter of Adverting Bills
Eleanor do, Daug, 11
Minnie do, Daug, 7
Gertrude do, Daug, 4

All born Lanc. Manchester

thanks for hamers l am now going down the right route with them.

l now need to and trace the davies side
which l know will be difficult because l have learnt that her mother had two marriages and her sister lucy has no fathers name on the birth certificate and was adopted somewhere after further checking l understand she was given to the poor house

Also now trying to work out who and where alonzo hughes comes into the equation married Annie elizabeth Hamer in 1924  cannot find any record of his birth and cannot see him in the 1911 census
believe they may have had a son in 1925 (Basil )
