Does postion of grave denote anything?
« on: Thursday 19 August 10 18:28 BST (UK) »
I recently vissted  the ancestral graveyard in  Withyham Sussex and found  about 12  gravestones of  the AVIS family  on  a little area close to the  main church door  and the path and then again onthe other side of the path  right next to the door. Does this mean the family were  important inthe church?  There wer a lot of very well off families that used this church and my family were not inthe the same circles!!!

Hi zooze,

One of my ancestors was a parish clerk back around 1800, certainly not a man of means, but when his wife died she was buried right next to the porch on the south side of the church (this is at Dymchurch in Kent).

Perhaps something similar is the case with your family?

Cheers
