Do you have any records for Patrick White I believe he was from Cork, all I know is that he settled in Cork when he married my grandmother Hanorah Cotter in Roscarberry, I believe he died in about 1930 just before my mother was born.

I have mentioned him before but just cant find any information on him, so i would be very grateful for any help.

My mother said he had medals for bravery from the RIC

Thanks John

Hi seanmac

I'm looking for a Thomas Kelleher (no 12613) born about 1830, we believe in or around Cork.  He eventually left Ireland and moved to England where he continued to be a policeman.

Any info on him would be great.

Thank in advance for any help that comes our way.

This is my first in this forum, I hope I'm in the right place. My great grand father was Samuel James Johnson MITCHELL and he was born in Cashel, Tipperary in 1846. He joined the Royal Irish Constabulary in 1864. At sometime after that he emigrated to England and joined the Metropolitan Police in 1868. I am trying to track down any information about his life in Ireland and about his father William MITCHELL who was a tailor.
Any help would be appreciated.
Frank

Frank,

One source for information on former RIC members is the Garda Siochana who have some records. See: www.esatclear.ie/~garda/museum.html  You'll see there is a specific contact at Blarney Garda Station for genealogy enquiries.

I believe all the RIC records were copied and are also kept at Kew. You may need your RIC ancestors serial number to track his records but I believe you may be able to get that from Kew.

Hi Elwyn, Many thanks for the information regarding the Royal Irish Constabulary.
I will be going to France for a month very shortly. When I get back I will go to Kew.
Are you aware if the records of brths etc in the area are available on line. All I seem to be able to get is records from 1900's

Hi Frank

Civil registration did not start in Ireland until 1864. I don't believe there is any pre-1864 information online. You may need help from a local researcher. Have a look in the Co. Tipperary section in case there is are other sources.

You can find some pre 1864 BDM material on the LDS pilot site:

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=collectionDetails&c=fs%3A1584963

And Protestant and non conformist marriages were recorded in the statutory registers from 1845 onwards.

But I agree with Ken that you'd best make local enquiries about what material is available in Tipperary. In my experience, in Northern Ireland, some BDM material (where it has survived) is still only held by the church. It's not in the Public Record Office or in Dublin. Often it's not on line. Sometimes the best or only solution is to approach the relevant church.

The RIC tended to post officers away from their own local area, for obvious family reasons. So if he came from Cashel, it's unlikely he ever served there. Expect to find him somewhere else in Ireland.

I don't know if I was just lucky but this evening I requested birth details for my great grand mother and got a return from the Parish records of Kerry which showed me her mother and fathers names,  her sponsors and her brother and sisters details.
To those of you who have helped, many thanks.
