Harper - Court in Maidstone or Doddington
« on: Tuesday 17 August 10 00:10 BST (UK) »
Dear all

I am doing some research on my wife's family and would appreciate some help.

I have found a marriage, of James Harper (census indicates born ca 1823 in Maidstone) and Caroline Court (bapt Doddington 1820) in 1845 (Jun quarter).

Without ordering the GRO certificate (!) I'd quite like to discover where they were married, and also try to find a baptism for James.

Of course, if I could also find the marriage of the parents of Caroline (Joseph Court and Susannah Laker, married 4 Feb 1802 in Doddington), that would be great too  ;D

Many thanks to anyone who can help.

The marriage is not on the IGI or IGI pilot site so unless there is a local transcription you would have to buy a copy to get that info

Well, I was hoping someone might have access to local indexes or transcripts.

The Mid Kent Marriages Index covers Maidstone but not Doddington.

http://www.woodchurchancestry.org.uk/midkentmarriages/index.php

No sign of their marriage on there.  So they may have married in Doddington or it did not take place in a C of E church. :-\

The marriage is listed on the Kent Registration Services site with a ref. M1 or Maidstone 1 - I believe this is the ref. for Maidstone Registry Office marriages or non-conformist marriages attended by the registrar in the Maidstone district thus won't be found in parish registers http://extranet3.kent.gov.uk/sp/rois/marriagesearch.cfm

There is a baptism for a James HARPER in Maidstone 1823 (son of William and Martha) see http://www.familysearch.org (Record Search Pilot).  The same source also gives the marriage of Joseph COURT to Susannah LAKER at Doddington 4 or 7 Feb 1802.
