Hans Diedrich Wulf born 1840
« on: Monday 16 August 10 22:09 BST (UK) »
Would someone be able to help with finding family of Hans who was a plantation owner in Samoa, He married Elise Haber, and had several children but on his marriage certificate he came from Neustadt, Holstein.  in Schleswig.  His father was Mars or Marx Meredith.  He died in Samoa in 1890.
We do not know if the children before the youngest were born in Samoa or whether they came from elsewhere first.
He would have left from Hamburg I presume.  His children were Theodore, Wilhemina, Sophia and Eduardo Tom was born in Samoa.

Have been searching for 20 years but not found conclusive information.
Thank you

Hi there,
I've looked for your migrant using the search criterial: "Wolf"; Wulf" and "Samoa".  Unfortunately there were only a couple of general documents referring to Samoa and none of your given names appeared when searching for the surnames. http://aidaonline.niedersachsen.de/
--

I came across this March 2010 query about a Wulf family on Samoa which hasn't received a response so maybe not your family?

http://genforum.genealogy.com/germany/schleswigholstein/messages/349.html

My name is Tufaina Wulf and my father is Alfred Wulf from Falealili Western Samoa. His Grandfather was a Theodore Wulf and in turn his great grandfather is Hans Wulf. I am trying to find out more info on Hans or Theodore Wulf as my father has little information on his family line. Theodore's wife has the name Malo.
I just wanted to know if you had any further info and if the Hans and Theodore wulf you know are related to my father.
Please contact me when you can.
Thanks
Tufaina Wulf

I don't know if you've seen this website, which has a dedicated list of emigrants from Schleswig-Holstein and although your ancestors name isn't amongst them I did notice a very close match of a Hans Friedrich Wulf born 1840.  Maybe you'd like to contact the web owner to query what is and isn't available.

He was tried (in 1872) for desertion. Probably absent then.

I see there is an 1855 Census Neustadt, Schleswig-Holstein Census available on microfiche which is available to hire for viewing for a small charge at your nearest Church of Latter Day Centre.  You need to keep an open mind when viewing given names as you might find your ancestor's parents used one of his other names.

I didn't check through the complete list to view the English translations but it looks like some records are in Danish and some are in German.
-
If there is no available film for baptism records you will need to email the Catholic or Lutheran church diocese archives to ask the cost of a search for a Neustadt baptism, marriage, etc.
-
Sorry i couldn't be of more help.

Hi, thanks yes you and I are from the same Wulf.  Theodore was the eldest son and ran the two plantations in Falealili.
Sophia was a sister to Theodore. My husbands grandmother was Sophia, and his great greanfather was Hans as well.  Your father will probably know my husband.  I will send you a personal email.

Thanks for your suggestions.  I know he was born in Neustadt, Holstein, which just means new town, Holstein.

Hi trudy,

I'm very sorry for the mix up but I am not the Rena who left the March 2010 message.

You should use the link and go to the genforum to respond to her posting.

I do not have any Wulf ancestors.

Best Wishes,
Rena in England

Hi there,

My great grandfather was Theodore Wulf of Falealili...we still have family there looking after the family estates...my grandfather, Henry, was the oldest of his children :).

I was reading about how there you couldn't find any info about the Wulfs whereabouts after Holstein but I remember my dad telling me that the old man told him when he was a child that Theodore's family, while he was a young boy, moved from Germany to Denmark...perhaps you'll have better luck looking there??

Hope this helps! and please keep in touch...would love to find out more about our ancestory:-).
I am currently living in New Zealand and there are heaps of Wulfs still in Samoa and here as well.

take care,
Melania Wulf

Hi, thanks, we have just returned from Samoa but didnt get the opportunity to visit Falealili.  Will do next time.  Thanks for the info, I had searched in Flensburg, and there was a mixup some one had pput Hans Deidrichs wifes name as Anna Frandsen, and that is why I was looking in Flensburg.  But actually his second wife was Ida Frandsen who married a Bremner, restauranteur in Apia but died. He had come from Berlin.
