Looking for William Taylor
« on: Monday 16 August 10 15:23 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm trying to trace my G Grandads' Regiment, the last number l have for him is 39810 Taylor William, born 1892 in Belfast. He was previously in The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers during WW1, and went on to serve in WW2, but l don't know his regiment.  Any help at all would be appreciated.

Regards
Sue

Where did you get the military info from? Has he a Medal Index Card from WW1 If he had WW2 service records will still be with MOD.
You can request a copy for approx £30 from the Veterans agency website

Hi, Got the information off a relative, unfortunately, due to a fall out within the family, l was lucky to be given a little information ie: his birth date, where he was born and the army number, but that was all, and was told that that was all the information that they had, which seems unlikely to me, but beggars can't be chooses!!  I will give the MOD a try, as this sounds like a good idea.

Thanks!!

Sue

I think the number maybe incorrect or he didnt serve overseas with that number in ww1 i did a search on NA Docs online on a wildcard with that number but couldnt see any close likeness to Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers :(

Hi,  I think that number may well be for WW2. I also have these numbers for him, which are said to be for WW1, from same relative, but ages ago, 8472, 3473 & 69106, if they have this much on him, then its a shame that they won't give me more.....it's so frustrating! I haven't been able to find out anything about these numbers, except for a medal card.

Hi,  Yes mum says that William had quite a few medals, and that he was injured twice, once in WW1 & once in WW2, mum doesn't know which way round it was, but he was hit with sharpnel, and buried alive, they only got to him because someone saw his hand move, and apparently lost most of his friends/commarades.  So, It looks like he rejoined again, the last time he was injured mum says was the beginning of WW2, and he never went back to the army then, as he used to suffer terrible nightmares, and attended Belfast Hospital periodically. Mum says she remembers him staying in the same regiment and moved around quite a bit......wherever the rest of the men went. Mum was adopted by William & Mary his wife by the way, and that is the reason that l can't get more info on him, she was infact his grand-daughter, so you can imagine the conflict to get any information from them.

Sue

Ps William joined the army in 1907, he would have been around 14.
