George Comrie of Denny
« on: Monday 16 August 10 09:19 BST (UK) »
I am researching a George Comrie of Denny who played professional football for Huddersfield Town in 1912-3 season. He has a wikipedia entry saying he was born in 1888, but the only census references I can find have a George Comrie of Denny aged 6 in 1891 and 15 in 1901. He may be related to a James Comrie also of Denny (born 1881) and James's nephew Malcolm, both professional footballers too. That's all  know currently.

Hi

I have a book that lists all  Football League players 1888-1939 and here he is down as being born Denny in 1888 and as George S Denny.

Before playing for Huddersfied, he played for Dunipace Athletic, Milwall Athletic and Dundee.

I'll do some more checking shortly.

The book further suggests that James was born Denny on 31 March 1881 and Malcolm 26 August 1906.

I have a list of their clubs too if you'd like them.

James Comrie appears to be George's brother  but there are two registrations - 31 March 1881 and 3 June 1882. Same parents - I assume that the first one died.

a little bit more to confirm the findings:

George Smart Comrie, professional football player,  married Mary Coan (?) on 6 August 1906. He is down as aged 20, which fits the info already given. Parents as before.

Also, there's a death record for him - Falkirk, 1958, George Smart Comrie
