Thomas and Catherine Nolan
« on: Sunday 15 August 10 21:59 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am looking for a Thomas Nolan born 1823 in Ireland.  He married Catherine.  She was born in 1837 in Ireland.

1891 UK Census says:

York RG12/3886 Folio 6 Page 6

Thomas Nolan Head M 60 Labourer Ireland
Catherine do Wife M 50 Ireland
Thomas do Son S 27 Tailor York
Mary do Daur S 23 Dressmaker York
Thomas Lavin Lodger S 43 Warehouseman Ireland

Carlow seemed to be the name where Nolan's seemed to be prominent so I thought I would start here first.

If you are able to help I would appreciate it.
Best wishes
Sharleen

Is there any known link to Co. Carlow or family story giving this as location in Ireland? or are you just posting here because Nolan is a common Carlow surname?

Just posting because it is a common name.  Sorry all I have to go on is the census.

In that case I'm going to move this thread to IRELAND-GENERAL board since your family could have come from any county in Ireland.
Since the Irish information you are looking for is before full civil registration (1864) your really need an exact location to search for any surviving church records.
Have you traced the family in later census records? The 1911 English census often seems to give a more exact birtplace than the county or 'Ireland' so it would be worth checking if you haven't done so already. We aren't allowed to do 1911 census lookups but this topic has a link to search hints to make it easier for you to find informantion-

I came to a stand still once I hit Catherine and Thomas.

I have not looked at this for a while but thought I might try again.  I will take a look at the link you have given me.  Thanks for the advice.  I appreciate it.
Have a great day

Sorry added to that by 1911, Michael and his family would have left England for South Africa.  However I will try and search for Mary, Thomas jnr and Catherine and see what I can find.
