STANLEY, William *COMPLETED*
« on: Sunday 15 August 10 00:54 BST (UK) »
I am trying to fill in some basic details about Frederick William Stanley b.c. 1863 in Gisborne, NZ. His marriage certificate (Melbourne 1888) indicated his parents were William Stanley and Eliza Thompson. Apart from their names listed on that certificate I have not been able to find other information, although there is a William Stanley buried at Makaraka Cemetery who would be about the right age (c1837 d 1911). Any suggestions on where to start would be appreciated.
Clifford - convict William Clifford 'Lady Nugent' 1835 - Gloucestershire
McDonnell - convict Manus McDonnell 'Parmelia' 1834 - Mayo, Ireland
Stanley - Frederick William, b Gisborne, New Zealand circa 1863
Flanagan - Margaret Cisely c1870-1944 Ireland to Queensland

Hi

  ... welcome to RootsChat.    :)

Does that marriage certificate show an occupation for the father of Frederick William ?

This is the only birth around 1863

William Frederick STANLEY 1861 #3416
You would need to order the certificate to get parents names

What is the difference between ordering a birth certificate or a print out? Do they provide the same information?

I have taken the details I have from the mariage certificate in Melbourne (1888) of Frederick William Stanley and Anna Sophia Schader. It states he was born in 1863 but he may have been trying to appear younger than he was.

Will a NZ birth certificate or print out include parents names? I see that information does not appear in the results when I do an on-line search

Thanks for the suggestions

A print out is best as it usually has more info and is sufficient for genealogical purposes. His birth was pre the date parents were shown on the index but most likely they will be on the print out.

Hi Pdafmill

A printout for a New Zealand birth registration of this era (1860's), will only give you the parents names (+ Mother's maiden name) ; the name, date and place of birth of the child.   So, very limited information unfortunately.
(I can check to see where that 1861 birth was registered - before you go ahead and purchase a printout.)

Am I correct in thinking that it is information for his parents, that you are actually wanting ?

Hmm ... have just noticed that whilst the William STANLEY (buried 1911 at Makaraka) is shown on the cemetery record as "William"  ... his death is in fact shown on the official online index (NZ BMD), as "William George STANLEY".

There are three additional deaths for "William STANLEY" which could also be possibilities.

Also, there is only one "likely" death record showing in NZ for an "Eliza STANLEY".

1929 - STANLEY - Eliza Ann - 88 years  (bc 1841)

Hi again

Do you happen to have the death certificate for Frederick William ?

If so, what is stated for "Years in Australia"  ??

It's always possible that Frederick may have moved to Oz with his parents ??
