Margaret Cottrell - Ness/Neston 1875 - Needle in a Haystack???

Good Morning - I'm a newbie to this site and am hoping someone can 'point me in the right direction'...please??

I am having terrible problems researching ancestors on my maternal side... 'Common names' and a lack of information being the cause....

Known facts
My G-Grandmother was Margaret Cottrell - born 1875 in Neston. Her Father was Thomas Cottrell
She married John Scott Butler on 2nd March 1905 (she was 30 at this time).On her marriage certificate her father Thomas was deceased, his occupation showing as a 'Farmer'.
Margaret and John had a son called Thomas (my maternal G/father - he dies as a result of war injuries in 1945) End of facts...

When I try and locate her on any census information I cannot link anything directly... I thought I had found her on the 1881 census, but am puzzled as the age is incorrect and her mother appeared to be having children in her 50's....

Is anyone else researching my Margaret Cottrell?

the only margaret cottrell of correct age and place of birth showing on the 1881 has a father robert so cannot be your girl

I don't know how old she was when she left Neston, but I do remember stories of her living, for a time, in the Isle of Man, and that before her marriage she was in domestic service - probably in Stockport (My GG Grandfather John Scott Butler was a postman, he delivered the post to where-ever it was she was living/working)...

The address on her marriage certificate is Bayerne Cheadle Road.

PS: Allan have just seen your query as to whether Margaret and John had lived in Bristol and Cambridge... they did not. Once married they lived out their lives in the Stockport area (from memory I think it was Edgeley...

check out the curious fox website and look under neston,there is a lady looking for willaston cottrells and i sent her a couple of photos from c1910 with members of the cottrell family.Some lived in a thatched cottage at the end of mill lane in ness and the others owned the post office in burton i think they could be part of your cottrell family

It would be great to find a link wiht someone on the Cottrell side...many times I have wondered if my Cottrells really existed...

It's made all the more difficult because there are so many with the same Christian names and I have so very little to go on...
