Is Mirran Marion?
« on: Saturday 14 August 10 09:52 BST (UK) »
I've two instances in the 1841 Census of Mirran Hendry who live next door to one another and are likely to be related but searches using this forename are fruitless.

Has anyone heard of Mirran as a female name or is it likely to be a mis-hearing/spelling of Marion or similar?

I've not heard Mirran but could it be Miriam wrongly written or transcribed?

Can you post part of the image for others to have a look?

Jen

Or, how's about this one as a possibility?

I have attached an image of the Census entry.

I am beginning to think that it is a mistranscription of Marion as I had just found some further evidence.

Thanks ev,

I had two of those Mirran's but not the third.  More importantly you've opened my eyes to the FreeCEN web-site which I didn't know about. I've been spending money hand-over-fist to Scotland's People - some of which I could have saved.

I have come back to my family history project after a year or more's lay-off and am probably ignorant of some of the research options open to me.

Thanks again,
Ian
