Any info on these Pubs in Scarborough?

My 2x Great Grandfather, John William Brackenbury was a publican/hotelkeeper in Scarborough from the 1880s through to his death in 1912.

In 1881, he was the Innkeeper of The Shakespeare Inn, at 3 St Helens Square.

In 1891, he was the Licenced Victualler at The Plough, at 2 St Thomas Street.

In 1901 & 1911, he was Hotel Keeper at The County Hotel in Westborough.

Does anyone have any info on these Pubs/Hotels? What kind of places were they? Any photos would be much appreciated!

Unfortunately I have never been to Scarborough and live outside the UK so I would be grateful for any info that you can give me?

only the Shakespear remains as a pub in the traditional sense.

the County is now shops

the Plough is now the Waterhouse, and bears no resemblance to its former appearance, having been at one time a lapdance club. It had a unique feature in that fixed to the bar was a permanantly lit cigar/cigarette lighter, fuelled by mains gas in the form of a figure of Punch, as in Punch and Judy.

the plough in the link from jane1 is a different pub altogether, to the one you refer too.

Do you know which shops are now where The County used to be? That way I may be able to find it on Google Streetview.

Looks like The Shakespeare is not such a nice place now... Do any of you have any idea what these 3 places would have been like in the late 19th early 20th centuries?
