wedlock family
« on: Thursday 12 August 10 11:06 BST (UK) »
My Great uncle emigrated to Canada in 1913, he was down as my grandfathers next of kin during WW1 as being in British Columbia. But I cannot trace him any further in Canada in 1915. His name was William John Wedlock, born 1888 in Surrey, England.

I would be grateful for any bits of information to try and solve his mysterious disappearance.

Thank you

L. Chazer

Afternoon beagle,

I checked the National Archives and there is a William Wedlock, b 21 June 1888 with attestation papers to join CEF. Not sure if this is your fella since he is living in Ontario, but worth a look. You can get his service file from the Archives of Canada for him - if it is him, for a reasonable fee.

If you think that William stayed in BC, perhaps you can contact the Vancouver Public library and have them do a lookup in the directories there?

Hope this helps,

JDC

Excellent JDC. Obviously need Beagle to confirm the birth date but there was a William John Wedlock Birth Registered in September 1888 Kingston. Surrey so that would fit very nicely. We are struggling to find anything in the USA.  ;)

Hi,

Since "contact" in North America, there has been lots of boarder crossing both for visits and other permanent moves. It's good to check both sides of that imaginary political line  ;D Keep us post on what you find south of our border.

The attestation papers show name as William Robert Wedlock not William John Wedlock.

Hi beagle,

Did you get the birth cert to verify this William is yours? I don't know how far Surrey and Kingston are apart?

Cheers, JDC
