Now I know I'm addicted........just reading through rootschat, and my 4 year old daughter asked, "Who's grave are we looking for now Mummy?"

.......then I think back, and all the "days out" have been centred on a graveyard visit :-[

Apologies if this has already been stated ::)
But, you know you have it bad when you have researched your family beyond their graves and still cannot get enough that you start making excuses and research anything which catches your interest in passing. no pun intended.
 ;D

Question:  Is it a good idea to keep all those little notes you make, for even the wrong families, just in case they turn up to be connected.

Yes it was and yes they are!!
People used to think I was morbid bringing my children to graveyards
It helped them with:
Map reading- obviously
History - again a bit obvious
Geography - finding their location!!
Maths - if that grave is ref# A56 242 how far to A56 263 or calculating ages
English - where old english was used and explanations of changes in letters and usage
Civics - through general respect of the property
and this is long before you find the long lost dead relative that teaches the Realism of death being a part of life!!

or maybe this was me trying to justify my addiction!

You are absolutely right on every point. Children learn so much by being part of a hunt. They have since man discovered Savannah.

However, we may both be deluding ourselves. :)

Some of our family outings consisted of loading children, camera, maps into the car (never let the children know where you are going, or there will be a fight).  Once we arrive at the cemetery there is normally a groan.  I make it a game, who can find the most headstones?  Amazing how quickly they can be found by children who just want to get out of there.

Just talking to the hubby a couple of nights back saying how wonderful it would be to go back to England and hunt down a few long lost relations.  His reply was not one of great delight :-X.  He made a comment about how we would end in cemeteries and record offices for hours on end, let alone me talking to people.
So a trip from New Zealand to England would cost us a fortune, this would be my overdose of the family history addiction if I had my way.
