He goes on to say:

Rating Your Addiction

Pretty tough questions, eh? Well, go back and count your “yes” answers and match the number of them with the list below.

1-5: You're still a beginner and have a lot to learn, but there's hope. Join a genealogical society ASAP.

6-10: You qualify to list genealogy as a hobby. You can work up to the next level by spending more time at the library or at an LDS Family History Center.

11-15: You're a dedicated researcher but you haven't thrown your heart into it. You have to give up those frivolous social events and PTA meetings and concentrate more fully on genealogy.

16-20: You are definitely hooked, but you may still have some modicum of personal and social life.

21-25: You are definitely addicted and there is little hope for you. You could attend GA (Genealogists Anonymous) meetings, and it probably still wouldn't help. Give in to it, relax, and have a wonderful time!

We Have No Shame!
Now that you've answered—honestly--all the questions, be aware that there is no shame in being an addicted genealogist. It's an honorable and, yes, even respectable kind of addiction.

If you registered a mere 1-5, 6-10, or 11-15, we are confident that you will soon join our addicted masses. Keep up the good work, and...

Happy Hunting!
George

I like his comment on 11-15:
You have to give up those frivolous social events and PTA meetings and concentrate more fully on genealogy.   ;D

Signs You're Addicted to Family History

It's time to admit it - you're addicted to Genealogy when any of the following apply to you!

  • Your bankcard pin number is 1837
  • You buy GROfast at the garden centre in the hope it gives you faster delivery of certificates
  • At the pub, you order an 'Agricultural Labourer's Lunch'
  • You can trace you dog's pedigree back to the 18th century
  • Your partner thinks you're having a cyber affair with someone called Anne Sesstry
  • When filling in forms, you include 'Relation to head of household' without thinking
  • You've booked a month's holiday for January 2011 in anticipation of the release of the 1911 census
  • There's a small sign on your front door saying "Postman: Do Not Bend A4 letters postmarked Southport."
  • You've bought a fireproof safe to protect your gedcom backups
  • Your grandmother refuses to visit as she can't take the constant questioning anymore.

Cheers

Paul

I have to admit I remember my store card PIN as being the first year of recorded baptisms in one of the villages my husband's family comes from...  ::)

I was so excited to find the baptism of one of my great grandmothers, that I ran round the house shouting "got her, she was a B*****d".  My wife thought I'd finally lost it.  ::)

When you are in the local newspaper and they say you are "addicted " to family history research.

Sounds like I was on something.  LOL

I know I'm addicted because I have recently found myself rationing my researches ... I've 'done' two or three lines back to the 1500's, and have got stuck there ... but I've only got a few more lines that I can follow back ... whatever will I do when I have no more lines to follow ??
