I think nowadays it would be called social history and economics.

 marcie

It's called Citizenship and starts at about age 6. It's usually taught alongside Personal, Social and Health education.

taught about government, politics, voting, civil duty, economics, banking, international issues and culture, etc.

Kim - I can't believe that what is taught from about age 6 is the same subject as we were taught at age 16/17.

It's not, but that's the age it starts at (understanding your local community, being a responsible citizen) and the subject is called the same at 16 but obviously includes more about government, international issues, etc etc).

Without going to Political ::)

In my opinion most of what our children are now taught is more akin to Politcal Indoctrination & Socio-Politcal Engineering!

I had one year of Civics at Boston Grammar School from 1950 to 1951. I really enjoyed it. Never had it after that though was told it had been cancelled. Surprised it was still around in 1957/8 at 6th form level, we were first years when I had it.To repeat my earlier posting you know your'e addicted etc. --- when you get up at 05.30 to go to a record centre.

When you come across information which you wish belonged to your tree, and include it even if it isnt, because its more interesting than your own.
Your brain says its not verified, but your fingers type it in : Who cares!

marcie

Just found that my nans family of Omay were married to the Kilchattans and therefore possibly some of the biggest names known in Scottish history, like John Leslie, David Carnegie, the Drummonds etc.
