a GGG GREAT GRAND AUNT OF MINE WAS MARRIED TO ONE OF THOSE HENNESSEYS. THE HENNESSEYS WERE HUGE LANDOWNERS IN LAHARDAN AT THE TURN OF THE 19TH CENTURY. I HAVE A GREAT DEAL OF INFORMATION ON THEM AS I AM DOING MY FAMILY TREE AT PRESENT AND I LIVE IN BALLYBUNION....THEY OWNED MOST OF LAHARDAN THEN ......CAN U EXCHANGE SOME INFO WITH ME FIRST? where do u live and what hennessey exactly are you descended from

Anna Pope Hennessy born 1806, married James O'Connell in 1837. James had a lot of influence in Lahardane in Griffiths and they had six children as far as I know. Frances 1837, Michael 1839 papal knight, Edward 1840 my GGGrandfather, James 1844 Parish Priest Melbourne and Anna 1846 Sister Brendan Listowel Convent. James Senior died in 1868 and we believe he is buried with his father Edward in Knockanure Graveyard. Anna Senior died in Listowel 28 March 1881 but we have been unable to locate her burial.

I meant to mention that Edward O'Connell of Lahardane emigrated to New Zealand in 1862. That's where we live.

 I am so excited! The photo is amazing. She looks like Edward Hennessey who live in Lahardan up to about thirty years ago!
I remember him well. Have u more photos??

No more photos of her but three of her sons Michael, Edward and James. The Sisters at the presentation convent in Listowel may have a picture of her daughter Anna, Sister Brendan. Other than that we have very little on Anna Pope Hennessy. Her death certificate and the baptism records for her children are all that we have discovered so far. If you come across any info please let me know.

Wow what amazing old photos - what treasures.

I have in my line a Julia Hennessy - born circa 1841 to a Michael Hennessy & Honora/Norah Finaghty in  Limerick Ireland.

Her parents Michael & Honora married in Ballybunion Kerry  1835 according to the Irish Genealogy website.
Michael was said to be from Dromon in the entry on the website

Julia was my gggranmother.

Julia married a Patrick O'Grady/Grady in 1858 in Ireland & they immigrated to Western Australia in 1862ish if I remember correctly

The Hennesseys were the landed gentry of the time and while times were tough in Ireland this family were land agents, made a significant amount of money. Land was cheap and with higher prospects abroad i.e. New Zealand/Australia/ America and most of the Hennesseys who immigrated did hansomely afterwards as they usually had a good start financially. The Gradys were also a landed family in the North Kerry area. Not everyone who left Ireland in 1830's, 40's and 50's were poor and destitute. Some left because they saw opportunity abroad and had the financial backing to do so. Keep in touch with me on email-   ^(*)

Thanks Mirror for your quick reply - very interesting indeed. I will have to have a look @ the Griffiths Valuation Index a bit more closely I think now.
