« on: Tuesday 10 August 10 05:48 BST (UK) »
William BARCLAY & his wife Christina McTAVISH originally from Alvah Banff and Forres Moray respectively.  Settled in Lanarkshire with their children James b 1863, Jane b 1872 and Annie b 1875 at 177 Garngadhill in 1891 census and 64 Garngad Hill in 1901.
Any information about this family and their other children  Alexander b1865 and Elizabeth b 1867 would be much appreciated.

Hello Dash,

Your family on the 1881. census still at 177 Garngad Hill, Glasgow.

Wm. Barclay, Head, General Lab. M. age 46 years, M. born Alva, Banff,
Christina Barclay, Wife, M. age 46 years, F. born Forres, Elgin,
James Barclay, Son, Porter, U. age 18 years, born Forres, Elgin,
Elizabeth Barclay, Daur, Scholar, age 13 years, F. born Dalis, Elgin,
Jane Barclay, Daur, Scholar, age 9 years, F. born Glasgow,
Annie Barclay, Daur, age 6 years, F. born, Glasgow.

I do not have the actual 1871. census. for the family. but by doing a search on Scotlandspeople, i am sure they are still in Glasgow, ie High Church, Glasgow.

Young Alexander Barclay, is with them, so as he is not there with family on 1881. i did another search for Alexander Barclay, deaths and there is one in High Church, Glasgow, 1871. aged 6 years, so i reckon Alexander, died sometime soon after the 1871 census was taken.

The clues are there that it is Alexander, because his young sister Jane Barclay, was born 12/Feb/1872. High Church, Glasgow.

Regards,
Jonn.

Jonn & Sancti,

Thank you very much for taking the time to find further evidence of my Barclay family.
As Alexander is listed as being 5 on the 1871 census it would seem quite possible that it is his death at High Church. Especially as High Church was their registration district at the time of the 1871 census.

Elizabeth could easily have been married by the time of the 1891 census as she would have been 23 by that time.
There is an Elizabeth Miller wife of Thomas who is the right age in the 1891 census. She gives her place of birth as Forres, which could be an understandable error, as her grandparents and mother came from Forres, which is quite close to Dallas, the home village of her aunt Elizabeth Nairn.  The Millers are living in Glasgow Govan, Lanarkshire.  Not sure how close this is to Glasgow Townhead.  By 1901 the Millers have moved back to Aberdeen, which is Thomas' birthplace.
So have no way of knowing if this is my Elizabeth Barclay.

James also disappears from the family home after 1891. He possibly married or moved away from the area.

I think William Barclay's parents were William Barclay and Jean Walker. They are listed in 1841 as living at Alvah,  Address; House on North Sandlaw, with children James aged 9, William aged 6 and Agnes aged 1.

Thank you both very much for all her help,  Dash
