Historical Hotels, SA
« on: Monday 09 August 10 15:33 BST (UK) »
Can anyone advise where i could find info on a couple of old hotels in Adelaide please? Would really love to find a photo or if they still exist under another name.
Have googled them with no luck..have found several mentions of them in the historical newspapers but that's about it:
Stepney Hotel, Payneham Rd.
Windsor Castle Hotel, Franklin St, Adelaide.

Excellent website linked by Dazey:)

There are also two views of the Windsor Castle Hotel on pge 2.  The hotel was demolished in 1954.

Annie could you please give the link that refers to Stepney Hotel, Payneham Road.  I may be able to find it in a directory if I had the year of the newspaper article.

Cheers

Thanks guys, you're legends!
Cando, I've found 4 links to the Stepney Hotel in the newspapers.
The year in question is 1860..I originally thought it was my GGGrandfather who was granted the publican's license for it but through further hunting, I now think it was his son (same name, Samuel Terrell,).
Here's one of the links:

Sorry, a bit illiterate when it comes to suppplying links  ;D I just copied & pasted the site details but it didn't turn out right!

Thank you so much for that info Ada..I've now got an exact address for the Stepney.
I don't suppose there was a photo of the original building in the mentioned book??
Thanks to Cando I've now got one of the Windsor Castle & would love one of the Stepney if at all possible.

Cheers
