Thank you KM1971 for pointing me in the right direction. I did a search on F M Past site and came up with the following.

John Love No 1739 52nd Regiment of Foot.
Joined 19th July 1843 aged 19 in Armagh
Discharged 3rd May 1864 after 20 years service, unfit due to Rheumatism, blind in left eye, impaired vision in right eye
He served 10years 26 days in the East Indies, 3years 120 days in North America, but no dates.

I feel this must be the John Love I am looking for but know nothing about the 52nd regiment or where they were in Armagh.

Also, thanks to agnadowey I did a Google of Barrack Hill, it appears there was Gough Barracks there at the time.
