Newspaper article- Peter Harley [Tayport drowning 1887]
« on: Sunday 08 August 10 04:22 BST (UK) »
Interested if there is a newspaper article about the drowning of Peter Harley and Robert Motion on 31st March 1887 in Tayport Harbour. They were on board the unregistered vessel 'Fisherlass'- I have the death certificates but was interested if anyone maybe had access to newspaper archives.

Thanks Ellen

This is my great great grandad my mum is a Harley and often told the story of drowning in the harbor also they say he was paid to look for an Americans daughter after the tay Bridge disaster but I rekon that must have been his father

Got that wrong this is his dad who did die in the harbor. But the thing is looks like his son died exactly the same way in the 19 40s

Peter Harley seems to have been an unlucky name in Tayport.

There are newspaper reports from July 1931 about a Peter Harley (age 23) of 24 Dalgleish Street, Tayport who was severely injured (fractured skull). The last mention says that he has not regained conciousness, I do not see a death.

There are newspaper articles in November 1942 about a P.O (Cook), Peter Harley of Tayport whose parents (Inn Street, Tayport) were informed that he was missing, presumed lost. He was a baker before joining the Navy in 1940.
