Andrew Galbraith Custom House Officer

Hello,
Can anyone help me in my research of my husband family.
We have a Andrew Galbraith married to Sarah Shipton. They had a son also Andrew Galbraith born about 1820 in cork.Who married a Helen Tully about 1846 in Dublin. on Andrew death certificate it said his father was a custom house officer.

Perhaps this is off little use to you but see how it goes.  I have come accross the name before during my own research and have two Galbrath's in University College Cork in 1914.  I would guess that they are some relation because the name is rare in Cork.  At the moment I have not completed the list of UCC men in WW1 but I can tell you that one was a Capt in the Royal Army Medical Corps, this would suggest that he studied medicine, while the other was a Lieut.  I do not have first names or an address for these men but this information is in the archives at the College.  I will, over the next few months, complete this list and hopefully (if you are interested) have a name and address of these men.  Incidently both returned from the war.

Further to my last posting I have come accross a picture of one of the men mentioned above.  A picture of Dr Scott Galbraith R.A.M.C. (Royal Army Medical Corps) appeared in the Cork Examiner 24/02/1915.  There is also a small article attached and it reads "Dr Scott Galbraith R.A.M.C. youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Galbraith of Monkstown Co. Cork.  He was extremely popular in Yorkshire where he had been assistant school medical officer under the Education Committee.  When the War broke out Dr. Galbratih was given a temporary commission in the R.A.M.C. and was attached as medical officer in charge of the 3rd Yorkshire Regiment".  This reads as thought he had died but in fact as I have already said in the first posting, he survived the war.

I also have Galbraiths from Cork in my tree. One of them was supposed to be a customs officer but I'm not sure which.
Benjamin Baker Galbraith was an army officer son of a farmer also Benjamin Baker Galbraith.  The younger one married Catherin Dineen in 1864. Any connection?

I am familliar with that wonderful site. There is a reference to my Benjamin Baker Galbraith in the Cork Examiner in 1856. He is my 3x great grandfather.


he had a grandson  named  Ernest Edward Scott GAlbraith. I wonder if that is the same Scott Galbraith who is mentioned in the previous post? Born 1870.
