Chris, Im glad you came across the thread, and the details I have for John Heigold, and also glad to be able to help these men be remembered. I dont know the circumstances of the death of John, but he is listed as having died on active service which could relate to illness or an accident, possibly a training one, but a death cert would have been issued.
Whilst he was based in kent in 1942, the Bn served in the North East of the country in 1940 / 41, but being a territorial it is possible that he was a pre-war soldier called up full time.
Some further info can be found here
http://www.walberswickww2.co.uk/defence-plan-south-lancashire/12 Months after his death, the 2/4th Bn was converted to the 13th Parachute Regiment, who dropped into Normandy on D-day, and also provided a lot of men for the Commando forces who where involved in raids at Dieppe and St Nazaire.
Also, thanks to Ian once again for the photographs that he has sent me
Phil
