what do these letters mean on a M I C card

hi, would be grateful if anyone can tell me what these letters mean in front of a soldiers service number. the R/ and the W.R.

    
Medal card of Brassington, Jonathan
Corps   Regiment No   Rank
King's Royal Rifle Corps    R/7867    Corporal
Royal Engineers    W.R.276769    Company Serjeant Major

See my post on your other thread, but R usually denotes Rifleman.

WR is a standard prefix for men in the Inland Waterways and Docks section of the Royal Engineers. I'm not sure if it includes the Railway Companies as well.
