I'm so desperate for some answers!!! Please help!
« on: Thursday 05 August 10 09:14 BST (UK) »
Hi all, I'm tearing my hair out trying to work out who my g grandfathers parents are. I have his birth certificate, which says his mother is Emily King but I'm struggling to find her or her parents details. I wonder if someone would take a look at the certificate and see if they can spot something I can't? It also states on there that he was born in a property in London, and that the mother resided in there. But I've found absolutely no evidence to suggest that she lived there at all! It was unoccupied in 1901 when he was born!
I've no idea what my next step should be. What other records would hold information?

Any piece of information is only a snaphot taken at that time.

He may have born at a particular property but that same property could have been vacant at the time of the census.

If no father is mentioned on his birth certificate he was probably illegitimate.

As for Emily, have you found her any any census?  You may find her with her parents in an earlier census.

There's so many Emily King's! The closest I have found is a 1901 census with Emily described as a shop assistant (on the birth cert it says she is a dressmaker) her father is named James and her mother named Emily. But I believe her father is called James Russell King as that is whats on the birth certificate then crossed out as the child was indeed definitely illegitimate.

I've found Lewis Russell King boarding with a family in Uplyme, Devon in 1911. And I know he ran a cycle depot shop there, and I know it's definitely him as I have his school books with his address written on them.

And do the Devon family have any connection with him?

Emily's father's name would not be on the birth certificate.

On your other thread, someone asked who is the informant of the birth?
