Looking for Jemima...please can you help? *COMPLETED*
« on: Wednesday 04 August 10 10:12 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I have been informed that my relative Jemima Pattinson (nee Hovells, aka Hobbils) went to Auckland, to meet her husband, on the ship - Rimutaka.  According to the Family Search website, her departure date was the 14 February 1886 and her arrival date was 26 March 1886.  Jemima boarded with her children: Sarah (age 12), Rose (age 7) and Jemima (age 3).  We think that this is definitely our Jemima, as she is from Durham and her birth year (1844) is accurate with the birth certificate we have just received.

Despite many hours searching the Internet, I haven't managed to find out what became of Jemima when she arrived in Auckland.  Her husband was Emmerson Pattinson (sometimes, abbreviated to Emerson or Emor).  I would be grateful if someone could give me any details with regard to where she lived, or where she died - in order to help complete the full history of this ancestor.  Someone mentioned that she may have gone to Australia, but nothing has been proved.

I would be grateful for any help.  Thank you.

Michael

There is a death registration for Emmerson Pattinson registered in Victoria Australia.     Registered 1901 age 62:  Father Robert Pattinson mother Isabella Emmerson.

Also registered in the same state is a death record for Jemima Pattinson.  Registered 1901 age 57 which would make her birth year 1844.

Could these possibly be your family?

Hi Nicoleh13,

That certainly sounds like them.  We still aren't sure who Emmerson's parents were, but we do think they could be Robert and Isabella.  Thanks so much for getting back to me and taking the time out to look for them.  It's quite strange that they have died in the same year; I wonder if there was an accident or an illness.  Their daughters will have probably married by the time of their parents' deaths.

Would you know if there is any way that I can find the actual dates of their deaths and the cause?  I live in England, so not quite sure how I would be able to access that information from the United Kingdom.

Thank you so much again,
Michael

Hi Althea,

Thanks so much for that advice.  I am still fairly new to this system, but I will post a query on the Australian board.  Please wish me luck...

Thanks again.

Michael

Hi Michael,
If they might be yours both deaths were registered in "Jumbunna"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumbunna,_Victoria

Historical Australian Newspapers can be accessed through here:
http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/

The Victoria BMD Historial records are online and are accessible through this link.  But there is a small charge for the searches.

Good luck with your search.
Nicole.

Hi Nicole,

Thanks so much for that information - I am going to contact them with regard to purchasing the details/certificates.  I hadn't heard of Jumbunna until today, so this is all good news for me in finding out what became of Jemima and her husband Emmerson.

Thanks for the Good Luck and the help with this query.  It is really lovely that 'strangers' are so kind in helping others on this website.

Every best wish to you and thanks again.

Michael
