Samuel Willliam Brown

Trying to trace the history of a Samuel William Brown, christened Waltham Abbey, Essex 5 Sep 1819 (born 9 August 1819 to John and Sarah Brown : other children were Sarah, John, Charles and Mary Ann. I am searching for a Samuel William Brown who turned up in Australia in c1837 - how, when and why he ended up in Australia can not be located - hence, am now trying to trace all "Samuel William Browns" I can find who were born around the London area (and surrounding counties) for the years 1815 to 1826. In Australia, he always used his full name ie "Samuel William Brown", so at this stage am concentrating on the those using the full name.
I know that he was not the Samuel William Brown born 1821 to William Brown and Adelaide Hucks.

Hello defadog

Welcome to rootschat

You have a hard task looking for a name of Brown!

here is a possibility, a Samuel Brown (given age 21) transported in 1837

http://www.oldbaileyonline.org/browse.jsp?id=def1-1017-18370403&div=t18370403-1017#highlight

This appears to be him and his transport ship?
http://onesearch.slq.qld.gov.au/primo_library/libweb/action/display.do?ct=display&doc=slq_voyager1045136&indx=3&ct=search&fromLogin=true&vl(freeText0)=samuel brown&fn=search&dstmp=1280694199531&submit2= Go &indx=1&vid=FamHis&scp.scps=scope%3A(IC)&dscnt=0

and he might be the Samuel Brown baptised 16th Feb 1817.....father's name William (a mariner), mother's name Maria.....address Griggs Court.....baptised St Mary Church, Whitechapel, Whitechapel High Street.
Entry number 196....source ref X024/093 from Docklands Ancestors LTD

And he appears to have siblings....
Thomas Williams Brown christened 18th Oct 1818 St Mary, Whitechapel (perhaps that's why Samuel always used William(s) as part of his name?).

Andrew Brown christened 30th Aug 1815

Angela Patmos Brown christened 13th Sep 1812 (born 29th May 1808)

Francis Brown christened 4th Jun 1815 (born 16th Nov 1813)

The siblings names might indicate that the father had been married more than once.....Patmos, Williams one would think could possibly be the mother's maiden name?

Their is a marriage between a William Brown and a Mary Elizabeth Williams at St Bots in 1813 which may or may not be William & Maria

Researching names BRYANT (Camberwell), PASTERFIELD (Essex and all), RAY (Holborn/Islington areas back to Brentford), POWELL (Glouc & beyond?)
Fletcher (Glouc into Warwickshie into Lancs?), BUCKLEY (Chatham area), Watson (Chatham area).

Hello Bryant,

Thanks for your time and info.

I have previously come across the Samuel Brown, transported in 1837 on the Emma Eugenia (whats another convict - I've already got four including two on the First fleet). He fits the profile reasonably well except for his age. This one was granted a pardon in April 1844. Mine married in 1851 and was fairly prosperous and well regarded when he died in 1907.  The prosperity part does not fit well in the ex-convict profile back in those days.

I'll check on the other possibilites that you have mentioned. I have also come across another Samuel Brown : baptised Essex 1823.

Again,
Many thanks.
