Hi Roydie,

It may be that the reason you haven't had a reply yet (and it's only been two days, so please be patient!  ;D  ) is that the picture appears to have quite a lot of JPG compression applied to it, so it is very blurry and even more so when enlarged on the restorers' screens.  This makes it very hard to work on.

Please have a look at the tutorial at the top of the Resources board:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,426.0.html
for information about how to resize an image without losing quality.

Cheers
Prue

sorry Prue, I am so used to the wonderful people on here posting up so very quickly, I thought I may have been overlooked in the weekend rush.
I was sent the photo as a 49k attachment so struggled to get it up to size.
Will have to read more and get it easier to be worked on, failing the sender being able to re-scan for me  :)
cheers

Hi Cathy  :)

If the photo you were sent was only 49k, there is nothing you can do to make it better quality, apart from ask the sender to re-scan it at a higher resolution  :-\  By artificially making the photo larger (in DPI, and/or physical size), all the computer is doing is spreading out the original small number of pixels over a wider area, which just makes the picture blurry.

Prue is right. If you manage to get a higher resolution image, feel free to PM me and I'll gladly do it for you, I'm a professional graphic designer. I know there are size limitations to posting pictures on the forum, so I can give you my email address so you can send through a larger file.

wow, thanks for the offer!
am hoping the original can be re-scanned soon, as I think it is a lovely family photo.

Cathy, it is relatively simple to make a large image smaller to get it onto Rootschat.  Just see the tutorials at teh top of the "Resources, Tips and Tutorials" board.  If you then let the restorers know that you have a larger version available, they can contact you so you can email them the file  :)
