wow that would have taken me ages to find that.  I would be so appreciated with my schedule I can only get 15 minutes per day.
I think my problem is I am trying 4 different families at once and getting confused.  I think I will just stick with Readman clan for now..... I will write all this information up and let it sink in....
Thankyou again....

Please check reply #6 it should have been Gateshead not Sunderland where Jane Ann was born.

I did find a family who I think are the parents of Jane Ann Jackson. They were Henry Jackson and Barbara Short. Married Gateshead June Q 1868, 10a 869.

Once again to be certain the marriage certificate of William and Jane Ann would prove her father's name.

I was hoping her surname was Allan re a later child of William and Jane Ann, Barbara Allan Readman, 1904.
However once again Posteria was able to help and found a marriage which looks very good.
Jacob Short, father of Barbara Short married Jane Allan 13 Dec 1835 Heworth, Durham. IGI M000982

A further note Jane Annie Jackson was christened 19 Feb 1873, Gateshead to Henry and Barbara (IGI)

Ok I will carry on with the census for Readman for the moment.

Hi there

If your line definitely is Joseph READMAN m Mary Dixon then I have Joseph's father as John Readman b1811 in Skelton and his mother as Mary Patton b1816 in  Marske in Cleveland. The Pattons were stonemasons in Marske and Coatham so you will find them in local directories

John Readman and Mary Patton were my gggrandparents so your Joseph was the brother of my ggrandfather William Readman b1853 in Skelton

John and Mary had 8 children (incl William and Joseph).

I would be interested to see the sketch you refer to as it would be the earliest image of the Readman side of the family that I know of.

I will dig out what other info I have on my Readmans and the relevant  direct ancestors (and descendants) which go back to the mid 1700s and up to the 1950s as far as I recollect

Hi Mike

This is really good news for shazjoy. I take it you have the John Readman 1841 census for shazjoy.

Do you have the family of Jane Annie Jackson, if not, that is fine and I will continue on that line.
