Hi Shazjoy

Welcome to Rootschat :)

Is his parents William and Jane Ann living Gateshead in 1901? Am I correct in thinking you are looking for his ancestors?

Hi

It is very difficult to trace back without knowledge of the names of a parent. To make sure you would have to get a copy of Joseph's marriage certificate. Guisborough 9d 1371 June Q 1920. This would give us his father's name hopefully.

I also had a look for his birth registration and could only find Joseph Henry [Redman] registered Q1 1895 10a 903, Gateshead district. I suppose this was possible seeing his birth date was given as 26 Nov 1894 on his death record. I'm not sure back then, but I know one has 42 days to register a birth today.

Has your family spoken about any other names, i.e. his siblings that might help to confirm his parents were William and Jane Ann?

If you wish I can give you the 1901 census but we can't be sure yet this is your family

I do have a copy of marriage, says father is William and witness was a William David , the address was Arthur Place Redcar, unfortunately I have only 2 of my family who i have trouble getting information, reluctant to help me out, this is when I decided to go solo. I know of one child Joseph has (living).

1901 Census

Living Burn Street, Gateshead

RG13, 4757, 43, 3

William (transcribed as Redmond), Head, 30, Redcar, Bricklayers labourer
Jane Ann, Wife, 28, Sunderland Gateshead
Joseph Henry, 6, Felling, Durham
William David, 4, Gateshead
Arthur, 2, Gateshead
John Dixon, 8 months, no place of birth given

I found a possible marriage for William Redman to Jane Anne Jackson 1894 Q3 Gateshead, 10a 1081

To be certain of her maiden name William David's birth registration would be useful
1896 Q3 Gateshead, 10a 951.

However if you specifically wanted Joseph's you could always specify that the parents had to be William and Jane Ann before they sent it to you.

1891 Census

Living 5, Allerton Terrace, Coatham, Yorkshire

RG12, 4001, 62, 5

Joseph Readman, head, 53, Joiner, Marske by the Sea, Yorkshire
Mary, Wife, 49, Coatham, Yorkshire
William, Son, 20, Bricklayers Labourer, Coatham
Harry, Son, 14, Scholar, Coatham
Anne Thompson, Visitor, 12, Scholar, Newcastle

I must thank Posteria for pointing me in the direction of this census as I was having problems and was unaware that Coatham was an area of Redcar.

Possible marriage Joseph Readman to Mary Dixon 1861 Q1, Guisborough District, 9d 625

Mary's surname would tie in quite well with William's son, John Dixon Readman

I am happy to go further back with the census if you wish, but I know some people like to look themselves - your call :)

I will have a look for Jane Ann's parents for you.
