Hi Sue,

Yes that's the trouble when you go back they didn't put ages on the Burial Records till about 1813.  It might be worth looking to see if there is a grave stone, I know Nottingham Archives have some Transcripts of Monuments so I'll have a look next time I'm there later in the week.

Oh and if there any other Newton (or Herring) MI transcripts from the Warsop area, they would be interesting too, if its not too much trouble  :)

Thank you.  That would be very kind. Monumental Inscriptions are very useful.  I know I have a Francis HAZARD (father of Alexander bap 1745 at Laxton) but there's a bit in the middle that is a bit hazy and I'm trying to identify which Francis is mine and who the other family members are.  My Alexander is the only baptism entry for Francis at Laxton so he must have lived elsewhere - poss Sutton on Trent.  Annoyingly, the film of Laxton registers shows a deep crease just at the spot where I think my Francis may be (1692) and I can't read it.  Such is the challenge of Family History.

Hi Sue,

I've had a quick look on my disc of Christenings had found a christening for Francis Hazard son of Robert christened 18 Sept 1709 at Laxton. That's the only Francis that's on there so this could be Alexander's father but there is no mother's name on any of the christenings.  There is a lot of Hazard's on there and when I have more time (maybe tomorrow) I'll type them up for you.

I've checked the National Burial Index for St Peter & St Paulm Warsop and there is NO Elizabeth or Eliza NEWTON buried there 1741-1883.
I then checked the whole of Nottinghamshire and came up with 2 possibles:-
St Mary, Nottingham, Burials
16/05/1800, NEWTON, Elizabeth, no age given
St Mary Magdalene, Newark, Burials
29/09/1805, NEWTON, Elizabeth, no age given
HARVEY, Guiting Power, Glos
PORTER, Gunmakers of Whitechapel
ALLEN - Blockley, BOWLES - Notgrove, BURROWS - Sevenhampton, COOK - Notgrove, DRINKWATER-LUNN - Aston Cross, FARDON - Temple Guiting, FAULKNER - Cheltenham, GADEN, GAYDEN, GAYDON, GRINHAM - Cheltenham, HART - Stow-on-the-Wold, LANE - Staverton, MOABY - Coln St Aldwyns, STAITE - Temple Guiting, TIMBRELL - Winchcombe, TYSOE - Warks & Glos, WHITFORD - Stanway, WINTLE - Forest of Dean, WYNNIATT - Stanway

Thank you Nottsgirl1 and Victor Harvey.  You've both been very kind and it's all good information.  Nottsgirl - please don't go to the trouble of typing up the Laxton records because I have them all in a notebook, but it was good of you to go to so much trouble.

Francis b. 1709 son of Robert may be mine but unfortunately there are other options which is why I'm running round in circles with this family.  It's all very complicated.  As mentioned I have sibling HAZARDS in the shape of John and Elizabeth (m. Daniel NEWTON).  From memory a Francis & Elizabeth HAZARD bap a John & Elizabeth at Sutton on Trent in the 1720s.  Are they the same John & Elizabeth - I don't know, hence the hope for an age at death.  There is a marriage licence for this couple which suggests that Francis was born abt. 1692.  Looking at the 1692 baptisms there is an irritatingly unreadable bit just at the critical point so I can't tell whether this Francis was bap. at Laxton also.  So far I haven't found any other candidates.  The big question is, is my particular Francis the one bap. in 1709 and if so, who, when and where did he marry?  Or, is mine the one born 1692 ish and whose baptism is possibly in a crease in the Laxton registers?

There are times when Genealogy is very frustrating   :)
