« on: Friday 30 July 10 15:33 BST (UK) »
Hiya

Have come across a census image from 1871 and the occupation given for one of the household looks like clicker???? was there such a thing and if so what did they do?

Thanks in advance

Hi Jill

Can you post that bit of the image in case one of us can make it into something else?

Or give us the name & census reference

Hi Linda

Tried to post the image but brain does not appear to be working very well today.

The name is Albert w Lambert and the ref is RG 10 Piece 668 Folio 133 Page 78.

It looks like clicker to me but any input would be gratefully received

Just to add that a clicker was also employed in the making of other leather goods as well as boots and shoes, e.g. bags, bridles, harnesses etc. A Clicker was also involved in the making of rubber shoes, galoshes etc. It was also a term in the printing industry.
