John Morrisy d1905 Castledermot
« on: Thursday 29 July 10 22:23 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm looking for information on John Morrisy, he m Anne Walsh in the parish church Castledermot in 1868, died in Castledermot in 1905;  On the 1901 Census he is aged 58, (born abt 1843) and born in County Kildare;  From his marriage cert his residence at time of marriage was noted as Sundays Wels, his fathers name was Patrick Morrisy.

I cannot find any information on his birth / parents; I've checked in Castledermot and his birth is not registered there and I cannot seem to find any reference to Sundays Wels except in Cork.  Can anybody out there help ???

Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks :)

It appears that John was born well before the start of Civil records in 1864 - so there will be no registration of his birth. You will need to check into parish records to find details for him.

There is an area named Sunday's Well just to the west of Cork City - maybe John was living and working there before his marriage

Thanks Shane

I've checked the parish register in Castledermot and his birth is not mentioned.  The only other lead I have is the Sundays Wels - another relative has checked this out in Cork, again with no results.

I was hoping someone would know of a townsland of 'Sundays Wels' in another part of the country.  An elderly relative of mine is pretty sure he was from Armagh / Antrim.

Any clue as to where I could go from here?

All ideas appreciated.

I dont know of anywhere else that could fit - maybe the name of a house or estate ?

It looks like the household census form was filled in by John himself, and he could read and write so I would think it would be a little strange for him to put the wrong county of birth.

He could also have come from another parish in Co. Kildare and not necessarily Castledermot

p.s. What's his father's occupation on the marriage cert ?

It might be worth checking Griffith's for Co. Kildare to see where any Morrissy families lived ..
