 A wee note that I have just came across

"At the time of his marriage, James lived in Kirkintilloch"

It was only one of the Fowler family who was interested but only in his fathers origin. He had no interest in the extended Ryan family. He doesn't have a computer and said he wouldn't know what to do with one.

Meanwhile...I have found a wee bit of a chart, just a wee bit, and will post it just as soon as I remember how it's done

I seem to recall being told that John and Eleanor Dooleys met in America and that her parents objected to John for some reason or another and so they both came to Scotland where they were married.
John was either a bucher or shoemaker, I don't remember which.

This looks to be the family in 1871, with the family mis-transcribed as Byan (been searching for this entry, only just found it!):

John Byan 34, Copper Miner b. Ireland
Helen Byan 30 b. Ireland
Michael Byan 10 b. Ireland
John Byan 17 (likely seven going by the 1881 entry) b. England
Patrick Byan 5 b. England
Jane Byan 3 (this would be James, down as son) b. Greenock
Anastatin Byan 6 Months b. Greenock

Yes.

Now you might find this hard to believe but..

The boy James, in the photo had two sons. The widow of one of the sons, a friend of my wife's, was standing right beside me at the computer just as your posting came up on the screen wondering if there were still any Ryan's in the area.
She said that I could pass on her email address to you and that you can get in touch if you wish.
She is the one who passed on to me all that I know of the Ryan family and she in turn had got most of the info from a cousin of yours by the name of Anastasia. She will either act as an in-between or put you in touch with Anastasia.
There was a child born after that photo was taken. Anastasia is the daughter of that child.

Looks like your family is rapidly expanding.
