Selway
« on: Friday 01 April 05 18:51 BST (UK) »
Hello.
I'm trying to solve a mystery.
In 1985 in Canada, Mrs. Elsie (Selway) Stewart died in her 87th year. The obit list her brothers, Fred and Ernest Selway. They are not on the 1901 Canadian Census, so I figured they were still in England. She married Frank Stewart after 1909 in Canada.
How would I find this family with just the three kids named?

Thanks.
Hoka.

Hi,

If she was 87 in 1985 when she died, she would have been on the 1901 census as a child.  However, you don't know the ages of the brothers if they were younger, they may not appear on the census.

You will need more details to be certain you are following the right family.

Do you have her marriage certificate, did she marry in Canada, if so which province/territory?

If you know the year of death could you obtain the death certificate, it may give clues to follow.  Where did she die in Canada?

Try posting as much of the details as you have and maybe someone can point you in the right direction to find this family.

Hi Sue,
I can find nothing about this family, Elsie Selway was my step grandmother, she died Dec. 15, 1985. in St. David's, Ontario.
She had to marry after 1909 in Ont., Canada as her husband was still married to my grandmother at this time. I know my grandmother was remarried by 1923.
It is hard to get anything from Canada.
Thanks for the reply Sue.
Hoka.

Hi,

Ontario marriages are part of the Archives of Ontario microfilm and are available to the general public through the Family History Centres of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (as well as at the Archives of Ontario).

This is a link for Ontario marriages, but the database isn't complete.

St David's is part of the Town of Niagara-on-the-lake, Niagara Township, Lincoln County, Ontario.

Hope this gives you something to work with.

How do I remove this from the board?
