William Light - criminal records
« on: Thursday 29 July 10 11:55 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Is anyone able to access the criminal records - there are 3 entries that I am interested in:-

William Light  4 Apr 1879

William Light - 11 Apr 1883

William Light   6 Jul 1888

All I can see is where it says residence it lists that as the trail date and all say imprisonment.

Thanks

Julie

Thanks Linda,

Very strange my William Light - he is clearly seen as an inmate in Winchester Jail in the 1881 census - age 17 but cant find out why. Even Winchester records office were unable to help. Could there have been another reason he was in Jail?

Thanks again

He may well have been just remanded in custody awaiting trial.

Or you could contact Hampshire Records Office, Winchester they hold some prison and trial records.
They may also hold records of newspapers for the period that may well have information of trials.

If they cannot help could he have been an inmate in the Workhouse or maybe held in a Military Prison at the local barracks/garrison.
