Hey Kiwi girl,
So this is random but I just stumbled across this after looking to find some info about my dads father.
I’m pretty sure my great grandmother Syvilla Maud (Whittaker) Byrne is your grandfathers sister. I unfortunately don’t know where she was buried Syvilla’s mothers name was Edith May (Gamble) Whittaker and her fathers name was William Charles Whittaker II. If I’m correct, your grandfather is her brother and is buried in Faenza War Cemetery, Italy in 1945. 243061 Corporal W C Whittaker, NZ Infantry, 7th April 1945, Age 23, New Zealand.
Go to a website called wikitree, I found so much on there and it goes right back to James Whittaker who came here from England in 1800 and abducted/was given Irihapeti in around 1844.
They had I believe 5 children,
Jane, Margret, Elizabeth, Isabel and William. William James who married Mary Ann (Weston) Whittaker,
they’re your dads great grandparents.
But yeah, pretty sure we are related hahaha.
